Qualifications

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a specialised SEN School near Soham. You\'ll work closely with remarkable students, providing personalised support to help them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The ideal candidate will have prior experience working with children in an educational setting and a genuine passion for making a positive contribution. A resilient, understanding, and proactive approach is essential for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Student Support: Providing tailored one-to-one and small group support to students, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their individual learning goals. Your support will be crucial to their development and progress.
  • Classroom Collaboration: Assisting the class teacher with preparing resources, organising learning activities, and maintaining a safe, engaging, and structured classroom environment. Your contributions will help ensure a smooth and effective learning day.
  • Fostering Independence: Implementing strategies that build self-confidence and promote autonomy in students, empowering them to embrace new challenges and take pride in their achievements.
  • Student Well-being: Serving as a primary pastoral support figure, you will help manage classroom behaviour, encourage positive social interactions, and ensure the physical and emotional welfare of our students throughout the school day.
  • Team Communication: Actively communicating with the class teacher and other staff members to share insights on student progress, challenges, and successes. Your observations will be vital for adjusting support strategies and lesson planning.
  • Personal Care: Assisting with personal care needs as required, always upholding student dignity and privacy.
Requirements
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children, particularly in an educational setting, is highly desirable. This could be in a school, care, or voluntary setting.
  • Safeguarding Knowledge: A solid understanding of safeguarding procedures and a firm commitment to protecting the welfare of all children is a mandatory requirement. The selected candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
  • Specialised Knowledge (Beneficial): While not essential, any experience or training in areas such as Makaton, PECS, or positive behaviour management strategies would be a significant advantage. A basic understanding of different learning needs (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Dyslexia) is also beneficial.
