Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs.
  • A patient, compassionate, and proactive attitude towards learning support.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and follow teacher or SENCO guidance.
  • An enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
  • A full CV covering the last 10 years, with explanations for any employment gaps.

Pay Rate: £89 – £105 per day (depending on experience)

Start Date: January 2026

Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long-term | Full-time / Part-time

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will:
  • Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment that encourages engagement and emotional wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement effective learning and behaviour strategies.
  • Promote resilience, self-esteem, and positive social interactions among pupils.
  • Manage challenging behaviour calmly and consistently, using restorative approaches.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to staff to ensure continued development.
Requirements for the SEMH TA role:
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural, or additional learning needs.
