About the Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will support students with social, emotional, and behavioural challenges, helping them access the curriculum and develop essential skills for life and learning. You will work closely with teachers and the SEN team to deliver tailored support, encourage positive behaviour, and foster confidence, independence, and wellbeing.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with SEMH needs in both classroom and 1:1 settings to help them engage with learning and manage behaviour.
  • Implement individual support plans and strategies in collaboration with teachers and SEN staff.
  • Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social skills through targeted interventions.
  • Build trusting relationships with students, acting as a role model and mentor.
  • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour, and engagement according to school policies.
  • Assist with personal care when necessary, maintaining dignity and respect at all times.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, SEND coordinators, and other professionals to provide holistic support.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students with SEMH or similar needs, ideally in a school setting.
  • Understanding of SEMH challenges and effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with both children and adults.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience to support students with challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to adapt to individual student needs and work effectively within a team.
