Overview

External Engagement and Global Access, Participation and Outreach. The postholder will need to be based in Exeter visiting schools and colleges covering a geographical area from Gloucestershire to Hertfordshire. This role is a permanent full-time position, available as soon as possible. Hybrid working is available – some time on campus and some from home.

Summary of the role

We have an exciting opportunity within the Schools and Colleges Engagement Team. The role is for a School and College Engagement Officer to develop excellent relationships with schools and colleges primarily in a geographical area from Gloucestershire to Hertfordshire. It is envisaged that the post holder will live and work in Exeter.

Working as part of the Access, Participation and Outreach Office, you will deliver a range of events and programmes to support student recruitment and widening participation. You will build and maintain excellent relationships with schools and colleges in the UK to attract applications from high quality students from diverse backgrounds and to support the University’s widening participation agenda.

Although based in Exeter, you will spend a significant portion of your role working out in schools and colleges, meeting with teachers and HE advisors to agree a programme of activities, or delivering workshops, recruitment and educational sessions. You will also be involved in developing lesson plans, online resources and/or marketing materials. You will contribute towards the successful delivery of online outreach through the Discover University programme of activities. You will support our Easter and summer residential programmes, run occasional events on campus in Exeter, and help run CPD sessions for teachers and HE advisors. You will represent the university at national exhibitions organised by partners including UCAS and UK Uni Search among others.

An important part of your role will be developing an engagement plan for your region based on analysis of data. You will support the creation and delivery of evaluation plans, write reports as part of continual improvement and performance management. You will also lead on particular projects or areas of specialism on behalf of the team and be involved in cross-departmental working groups and project teams.

  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, colleges, teachers and HE advisors; deliver workshops and educational sessions.
  • Develop lesson plans, online resources and marketing materials; contribute to online outreach through Discover University.
  • Support Easter and summer residential programmes and occasional on-campus events in Exeter; run CPD sessions for teachers and HE advisors.
  • Represent the university at national exhibitions and partner events.
  • Collaborate on cross-departmental projects and participate in project teams and working groups.
  • Lead on specific projects or specialisms as required.
  • Produce evaluation plans and written reports for continual improvement and performance management.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Educated to degree level and IT literate; ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong communication skills; confident in working with pupils of varying ages, teaching staff, and prospective students and families.
  • Experience with planning and prioritising activities based on evidence and data analysis; understanding of evaluation and report writing.
  • Experience in teaching, training, or outreach is advantageous; knowledge of progression to higher education is beneficial.
  • Brand ambassador for the University of Exeter with a commitment to excellence and customer service; ability to work autonomously and within a multi-functional team.
  • DBS check required; good working knowledge of Word and Excel (office environment preferred).
  • Full UK driving licence is required.
