Job description
Overview

Working across one of our two hospitals and within the community if preferred, you\'ll have an important role to play in the care across the whole spectrum of pregnancy and birth. You will have the opportunity during your induction to work in all areas including Delivery Suite, community, Ante natal services and inpatient areas. The multi-faceted nature of our Maternity Services unit means you\'ll ensure families accessing our services receive excellent care, that\'s tailored to their individual needs at every stage of their journey. You\'ll be part of our Improvement Programme, being a voice for positive change within our multi-disciplinary team, with a say in how we implement, deliver, and evaluate our care and you will be part of the decision-making process that drives our transformation. We emphasise progression and compassion as core to delivering excellent care, with opportunities across a wide range of maternity services along with a focus on staff wellbeing and personal development, providing a path where you never stop learning and feel valued.

Responsibilities
  • Be a powerful voice – promoting excellent and effective patient care, participating in decision-making relating to women-centred care, driving transformation and change when you see an opportunity, and acting as an advocate for women and those accessing our services.
  • Be a great listener – engaging with feedback from those accessing our services, ensuring confidentiality in everything you do, learning from every new experience and adapting to new styles of working.
  • Be an advocate – for women and those accessing our services, for colleagues who deliver excellent care and who deserve recognition, and for the Trust – working within our guidelines, policies, procedures, and ethical and legal frameworks.
  • Be effective – in how you manage and prioritise your time, ensuring resources are used efficiently, continuously assessing and evaluating how care is delivered, and developing your skills in areas that you feel need the most focus.
  • Be an inspiration – on the ward and within the wider multi-disciplinary team. Be a role model for junior staff and students. Be responsible for personal development and identify short and long-term goals. Encourage the development of others so that no one is left behind and we continue to work collaboratively at every level.
  • Be professional – by always adhering to Health and Safety legislation, administration and storage of drugs, clinical incident reporting, infection control, safeguarding, and safekeeping of patient property.
  • Be curious and an educator – by taking part in clinical audits and trials to improve patient care, using and sharing evidence-based practice, participating in the evaluation of education programmes, mentoring both qualified and unqualified staff including student midwives, and assisting in the orientation of new staff or Return to Practice midwives as a preceptor.
