Job Description

Collaborate with and at the direction of the surgeon and with the healthcare team in performing a safe operation with optimal patient outcomes during the intraoperative phase of the perioperative experience. Practice perioperative nursing and possess the necessary knowledge, skills and judgment specific to clinical practice.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing or Advanced Practice nursing degree.
  • CNOR required for those without Advanced Practice nursing degree.
  • Two (2) years of operating room experience as scrub nurse, circulating nurse or Advanced Practice Nurse required; work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
  • Proof of enrollment in a National Institute of First Assisting (NIFA) Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) approved RNFA program or in an RNFA program that is AORN compliant; meets specific criteria and is acceptable for CRNFA at the time of hire.
  • Letters from Operating Room administration and surgeon supporting remaining first assisting hours needed to complete RNFA program.
  • Certificate of completion of RNFA program within eight (8) weeks if full‑time OR employee; four (4) months if part‑time OR employee.
  • Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing.
  • Currently certified with Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Currently certified with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
  • Credentialed as a Certified Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA) by the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI) within three (3) years from the date of employment.
