Job description

Resident Engineer (282jc) – Oxford - £31 – 43k (DOE) + Excellent Benefits

Are you a former military technician or engineer looking for a role where your skills, discipline and problem-solving ability are genuinely valued? A global leader in forklift trucks and warehouse equipment is recruiting Resident Engineers at a customer site in Oxford — and they’re keen to speak with military veterans from REME, Royal Engineers, RAF / Army / Navy engineering branches, or any hands-on technical trade.

DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.

This is a role that suits someone who enjoys working independently, taking ownership, and keeping high-value equipment mission-ready — very similar to the engineering environment in the forces.

The Role

As a Resident Engineer, you’ll be permanently based at a dedicated customer site, becoming a trusted technical specialist within their operation. You’ll handle a wide range of responsibilities, including :

  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults
  • Conducting preventative maintenance to keep the fleet operational
  • Servicing forklifts and advanced material-handling machinery
  • Supporting day-to-day operations and maintaining strong customer relationships
  • Providing technical advice, ensuring equipment safety and reliability

Every day brings something different — ideal for someone who thrives in a varied, hands-on engineering role.

Who They’re Looking For

They welcome engineers from a range of backgrounds, especially those with :

  • Military mechanical / electrical engineering experience (REME VM / Tech Elec, Armoured Systems, Marines / RAF techs, etc.)
  • Vehicle technician or plant / engineering backgrounds
  • Experience with plant equipment, powered access, agricultural machinery or mechanical systems
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) ideal, but not essential
  • Confidence using IT systems and diagnostic tools
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a wider team

If you’re unsure whether you fit — they encourage you to get in touch.

What You’ll Receive
  • £31–43k, depending on experience
  • Monday to Sunday rota, with shift premiums and overtime available with a choice of 40 or 45 hr working week
  • 33 days annual leave including bank holidays (plus extra leave for long service)
  • 6% employer pension contribution (4% employee minimum)
  • Employee discount schemes & incentive schemes
  • 6-week world-class induction programme
  • Ongoing professional development, technical grading progression
  • Full product training + funded Forklift Driver Licence
  • Opportunities for extended learning up to degree level
  • Laptop, phone and all specialist tooling provided
  • Tool replacement policy
  • Full PPE and specialist workwear, company cleaned
  • Strong technical support network (local & national)

Join a company that values precision, professionalism and reliability — the same qualities you built in the military. This is a long-term, secure engineering career with genuine progression and world-class support.
