A prestigious government institution seeks a Researcher (Economics) to support the House of Lords by preparing briefings and conducting research on economic affairs. The role offers a hybrid working environment, requiring interaction with members and expertise in economics. Candidates should have a relevant degree and strong research abilities. Benefits include 30 days off annually and participation in significant legislative activities.
We are looking for a Researcher (Economics) to join the research team in the Library of the House of Lords.
This is a position where you will support the delivery of the Library's services to Members and will prepare briefings in all areas of policy. You would be the principal researcher for briefings concerning the economy and related issues such as business, financial regulation, tax policy, banking, international trade and statistics.
The research will be undertaken using a range of resources and by contacting government and external organisations, and will be informed by the applicant's expert knowledge of the subject. Briefings are circulated to members of the House of Lords and published on the Library website.
You would have the opportunity to work on a hybrid basis, with a mixture of working from home and working onsite at Parliament.
You will need to have the availability to work one evening per week when the House is sitting as part of the Library's evening service rota if required. This is currently completed from home, for which an annual allowance is payable. Arrangements would be discussed with the successful applicant.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to write briefings that will be used by members of the House of Lords and will inform debates on the floor of the House. The Library offers a flexible and interesting working environment within Parliament, and the chance to research and write about a wide range of topics.
