Research Associate in Diffraction Mapping of Condensates (10383)

Salary: £38,500 p/a (depending on skills and experience)

  1. Project: Electron Diffraction-Based Mapping of Molecular Condensates
  2. Project Lead: Dr Judy Kim
  3. Location: Harwell, Oxfordshire – state‑of‑the‑art research facility with advanced instrumentation such as a double aberration‑corrected 300kV Cryo (S)TEM, two 300kV conventional Cryo TEMs, three Cryo Dual beam FIBs, and a 300kV chromatically corrected TEM.
  4. Role: Research Associate – post‑doctoral level. Requires a PhD/DPhil (or equivalent). Early completion candidates may start at £37,500, increasing upon completion.

Responsibilities and focus:

  • Design and execute electron diffraction experiments to map molecular condensates.
  • Develop and apply advanced electron microscopy techniques such as liquid phase EM and 4D STEM.
  • Interpret diffraction patterns and integrate with computational imaging models.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams within the Multidimensional Imaging (MDI) Challenge.
  • Publish findings and contribute to scientific knowledge in the field.

Qualifications:

  • PhD/DPhil in physics, biophysics, biochemistry, applied mathematics or a related discipline.
  • Experience with advanced EM methods, electron ptychography, electron spectroscopy, or computational imaging (inverse problems).
  • Strong analytical, programming and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
