Job description
Job Summary

Motivated Band 5 Staff Nurse required to join a proactive dynamic nursing team on the Dialysis Unit at City Hospital Campus. As part of your role you may be asked to work with both inpatients and outpatients and may at times be asked to cover other satellite areas at Kingsmill and Ilkeston Hospitals during staff shortages.

Responsibilities
  • Perform haemodialysis therapy and patient‑focused care related to it.
  • Work within a team and act as a team leader when required to ensure smooth running of the unit and manage problems.
  • Assess patients each time they come for treatment, including fluid assessment and find effective solutions to their problems.
  • Liaise with doctors, patients, families, outside agencies, other wards, and colleagues regarding patient care requirements.
  • Provide health teaching and support to patients about their condition, dialysis access care, and diet.
  • Liaise with staff in other dialysis centres regarding patient transfers.
  • Help and train new members of staff.
  • Assess care needs of patients and develop a programme of care to evaluate and amend as needed.
  • Carry out relevant forms of direct and indirect patient care without direct supervision.
  • Regularly take charge of the clinical area in absence of the person who has continuing responsibility.
  • Utilise and integrate evidence into practice.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Band 5 Staff Nurse qualification.
  • Dialysis experience desirable; suitable for specialised unit.
  • Ability to work with both trained and untrained nurses supporting haemodialysis patient care.
  • Commitment to working with both inpatients and outpatients, and covering other satellite areas when needed.
