Relief Security Officer
Location and Working Hours
- Location: Wokingham, Berkshire.
- Pay Rate: £12.60 per hour, a minimum of 8 hours per week.
- Shifts: 12‑hour shifts with no set pattern – may include day/night shifts, weekends and Bank Holidays.
- SIA licence: Security Guarding or Door Supervisor required. CCTV licence desirable – training provided for the right candidate.
- Driving licence & own vehicle desirable but not essential.

Job Overview
As a Relief Security Officer, you’ll play a vital role in safeguarding people, property and assets.
- We are looking for experienced, driven and enthusiastic security professionals who want to learn.

- Provide security services in direct accordance with the site’s published Assignment Instructions (AI’s) and any subsequent changes.
- Deliver results that meet and/or exceed the Key Performance Indicators / Service Level Agreements for the client through full responsibility and accountability, providing a service that aids in the retention of the contract.
- Undertake additional training to ensure continuous self‑development.
Main Duties
- Ensure compliance with all aspects of policies and relevant legal and regulatory requirements as directed by the Security Account Manager and in accordance with UK law and guidance bodies.
- Fully and satisfactorily complete all tasks and duties on site as defined within the published Assignment Instructions (AI’s).
- Proactively review the published Assignment Instructions, familiarising yourself with any changes and suggesting additional amendments that will improve or enhance the current level of service.
- Maintain compliance with industry and statutory legislation – a front‑line licence in either Security Guarding or Door Supervision must be worn at all times whilst carrying out duties. Additional courses that are contractually required will also be required.
- Comply with all legal obligations and safety requirements of the role.
- Follow instructions and procedures appropriately without unnecessarily challenging authority.
- Work in a systematic, methodological and orderly way.
Training & Development
- Complete all mandatory and competency‑based training.
- Embrace additional training opportunities for self‑improvement.
- Maintain up‑to‑date job knowledge using available technology and resources.
- Renew SIA licence 16 weeks before expiration.
Security and Health & Safety
- Look out for, and immediately report, any Health & Safety hazards or potential hazards on site.
- Stay alert to any threats or changes within the work environment to take the appropriate action to reduce the chances of disruption, loss or damage.
- Use common sense and initiative by immediately involving others if a situation appears to become threatening.
- Maintain professional conduct in the face of difficult situations and challenging customers.
- Complete an accurate, detailed notebook entry as soon as possible after any incident, which can then be used as part of the Incident Report process.
- Keep to schedules and demonstrate commitment to Mitie and the client.
- Ensure check calls are being carried out at the allocated time slot as stipulated in the Assignment Instructions (AI’s).
- Call emergency services and the Communication Centre to report all incidents.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: Proven background in the security industry is essential.
- Licensing: A valid SIA licence (Security Guarding or Door Supervision) is required. SC Clearance is highly desirable.
- Background Checks: You must have a fully checkable 5‑year work/residence history within the UK.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to take initiative.
- Professionalism: Calm under pressure, dependable, and confident in making sound decisions.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work differing shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.
- Technical Confidence: Comfortable using IT systems, e‑mail, phones, and client‑specific platforms.
