A major public teaching hospital in Launceston seeks Advanced Physician Trainees for comprehensive inpatient and outpatient management. The role offers a competitive salary between $134,930 - $189,005 per annum and includes significant training opportunities across multiple specialties. Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is a 400 bed public hospital providing acute care services and is the major referral centre for North and North West regions of Tasmania. It is a teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania and accredited with the RACP for advanced training in a number of specialties including General Medicine. The LGH is accredited for both years of core training in General and Acute Care Medicine, and additional non core training.
During your Advanced Physician Training at the Launceston General Hospital you will be exposed to a wide range of well supported inpatient and outpatient work. There are opportunities to rotate to a number of specialties including Perioperative Medicine, Endocrinology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Stroke, Cardiology, Renal, Respiratory and Rehabilitation as well as opportunities to assist with organisation of the FRACP clinical examination. Acute terms are readily available in Cardiology, Stroke and the Acute Medical Unit.
We encourage our trainees to be actively involved in teaching via the University of Tasmania (with opportunities for honorary titles) and with the teaching program for the Basic Physician Trainees. General and Acute Care Medicine Advanced Trainees have the benefit of a dedicated education program focused on the professional skills required to be a General Physician. There is also ample opportunity for research and supervision of the Advanced Training Projects. We are well supported by the Clifford Craig Foundation with research grants available to successful applicants, including trainees.
Launceston is a one hour flight from Melbourne and in a central and accessible distance to all of Tasmania's environmental wonders.

Multiple Fixed Term full time, day worker with on call position working 76 hours per fortnight with an additional 10 hours of protected training time, commencing from 2 February 2026 until 31 January 2027. *Negotiation of contracts of up to three years and flexible training may be applicable"
Medical Practitioner Level 5 - 11 $134,930 - $189,005 per annum, pro rata+ 12% superannuation+ access to salary packaging
