Job Overview

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our School Nursing Immunisation team.

As a Registered Nurse (Immunisations) you will be required to work across the Gwent wide area, vaccinating within the school environment and within community venues.

You should be a first level registered nurse, with desirable experience of working within the community environment, working with children and/or working within the field of immunisations.

You should be a motivated, autonomous practitioner, able to integrate and work competently within a skill mix team. You should be able to respond to the physical, mental and emotional challenges of working within a developing service.

You will also be required to contribute to any other duties which may be requested by the senior nurse in order to facilitate the smooth running of the school nursing service.

You should be fully committed to your own professional development and ready to undertake specific development required of the role. In return, you will be working within a close, supportive team and will be mentored through induction and education programmes to meet all competencies required to work in this exciting field of nursing.

You must be able to meet the geographical needs of the role.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide a high standard of evidence based care in the delivery of childhood vaccinations in school and community settings.
  • Develop and maintain good communication and relationships with partners, for example Gwent wide schools and primary care.
  • Undertake training programmes for immunisation schedules which include storage and administration of vaccines and gaining consent.
  • Promote the National Immunisation Programme and take all opportunity to increase the uptake and advise parents about the immunisation schedule.
  • To attend relevant immunisation meetings to report on immunisation issues.
  • Any other duties which may be requested by the line manager in order to facilitate the smooth running of the school nursing service.
