Job description
Overview

A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Registered Nurse to work within the Emergency Department at Royal Derby Hospital. The Adult Emergency Department at Royal Derby Hospital is one of the busiest AEDs in the country, seeing on average 120,000 patients per year.

Permanent and Secondment/FTC available.

Responsibilities
  • As a band 5 Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department you will work in all areas of the department and care for patients in all areas including Majors A, Majors B, Resus, and Ward 101.
  • Look after a team of patients alongside a hardworking team to facilitate excellent care for our patients.
  • Be part of a department that has expanded its size, with a 7 bedded resuscitation unit, 7 bay initial assessment area, 22 bay majors area, and potential to open an additional area with 9 bays/cubicles and a large waiting room.
  • Care for ambulatory patients in an area with a main waiting room, 2 triage rooms, and additional sub wait areas with 4 assessment bays.
  • Work with Emergency Nurse Practitioners and in a new Urgent Treatment Centre that sees up to 100 people daily with multiple assessment and treatment rooms.
  • In time, be supported to train in the Manchester Triage System to enable work in Pitstop and Streaming.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Registered Nurse (Band 5) with excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a busy Emergency Department.
  • Willingness to train in the Manchester Triage System (future rotation to Pitstop and Streaming).
About the department and development

We are a Trauma unit with close links to the Major Trauma Centre in Nottingham. We are the only Acute Trust in the East Midlands to have a helipad on site. We are supported by Matron, 14 Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses, 40 Sisters/Charge Nurses and a Clinical Educator team who provide opportunities for training and development. We work closely with the Universities of Derby and Nottingham and are committed to the professional development of our staff in order to progress within Emergency Medicine.

The department has previously won Emergency Department Clinical Team of the year at the Royal College of Emergency Medicine awards and received commendations for patient safety initiatives.
