Be part of a dynamic team that makes a difference

At East Suffolk Services, we proudly deliver a wide range of essential local services that support the lives of over a quarter of a million residents and thousands of businesses across our district.

As part of our team, you’ll play an important role in helping us shape high-quality, efficient services that people rely on every single day.

This is more than just a job. This is a fantastic opportunity to support, and give back to, your local community.

We currently have an opportunity to join our Waste, Recycling and Street Cleansing management team as an Assistant Manager.

Your role

Alongside our existing Assistant Managers, your role will be to lead a team of Refuse Operatives to ensure our Waste, Recycling and Cleansing services are delivered in a professional and effective way, compliant with relevant legislation and best practice and with our customers at the heart of service delivery.

You will effectively manage resources and plan service delivery, assisting in resolving any issues and effectively dealing with customer complaints. Working in an innovative way, you will review and evaluate working practices and productivity, making proposals for continuous improvement within the department.

People management will be a key part of this role, as you will manage recruitment, inductions, training, 1:1’s, performance management and sickness absence across the team.

What you will need

You will ideally have previous experience working within the industry, an understanding of relevant health and safety and legal requirements, and experience in resource allocation and management.

Excellent communication skills will be essential, in addition to the ability to lead, support, motivate and manage the workforce. The ability to work under pressure, problem solve and a high attention to detail will be key.

Thinking of joining us? Here’s why you should

At East Suffolk Services, we truly value our employees. We understand that the backbone of any company’s success will always be its people and that our continued success depends on recognising talented individuals, supporting their development, and retaining them within our organisation. That’s why we are committed to making East Suffolk Services a great place to work.

Do you have the skills, experience, or potential to succeed in this role? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

  • Access to a wide range of support networks and wellbeing initiatives, including mental health resources and specialist counselling.
