We have an exciting opportunity to join our Theatre team at St Hughs Hospital. The post holder will work as part of the theatre team providing support to all members of staff and consultant users.

The Recovery Practitioner is responsible for the safe and effective care of post‑operative patients, ensuring they meet clinical discharge criteria before returning to the ward. Working as an integral member of the theatre team, the post holder will provide high‑quality support across a range of surgical specialties, maintaining a strong focus on patient safety, clinical excellence, and operational efficiency.
The role involves supervising and supporting staff, acting as a role model and fostering a learning environment. The Recovery Practitioner will proactively identify learning needs and take steps to close knowledge and skills gaps to ensure best practice is upheld. Additionally, the post holder will contribute to ongoing quality improvement initiatives, support process enhancements, and participate in audits and monitoring activities to uphold service standards and patient outcomes.

Ensure thecleanliness and safe maintenance of the Theatre and Recovery areas, adheringto infection prevention and control policies.
To be conversant with all aspects ofthe Stores ordering system, stock levels and supply in the TheatreDepartment.
To deliver individualised clinicallyappropriate, efficient and effective evidence based clinical care forpatients, in line with the Healthcare Management Trusts and procedures andcare pathways.
To act as a professional resource for clinicalsupport staff and to undertake the role of supervisor for these individuals,working in support of the staff in the discharge of their duties andfacilitating the use of evidence-based practice, patient assessment, clinicalanalytical skills and patient early warning systems.
The maintenance of the custody andadministration of medicines within the unit in accordance with HMT policies,the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the medicines Act of 1968.
To maintain accurate, contemporaneousand legible patient documentation, being fully aware of legal, professionaland confidential requirements and utilising only authorised abbreviations.
The maintenance of HMT policies andpractices ensuring that the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act2008 and CQC Regulations 2014, noting the absolute requirement to adhere toinfection control policy and procedure and to ensure that all other hospitalpersonnel fulfil their contractual obligation, by escalating failures to doso to a line manager
The use of corporate and clinicalgovernance systems to monitor and develop clinical services.
Displaying at all times a professionalapproach and action, so as to obtain and justify patient and user trust andconfidence.
To positively promote with staff,users, patients and other visitors the ethos of the Healthcare ManagementTrust, based on a demonstrable empathetic and sensitive approach to the careof patients, relatives, users and colleagues.
Maintain and check all recovery equipment prior to eachuse to support preparation and ensuring it is safe, clean, well equipped, andfit for purpose.
Promote safe infection control practices.
Support incident reporting, complaints handling, andinvestigations, contributing to quality assurance and patient safetyimprovements.
Contribute to clinical audits and the development orreview of local policies, guidelines, and protocols in line with nationalstandards (e.g. NICE, AfPP).
Display a professional approach that builds patient trust,confidence, and a positive impression of the recovery team and wider service.
patient dignity, safety, and comfort are ensured atall times, particularly when recovering from anaesthesia.
To beaware of, and be able to, implement emergency procedures e.g. cardiac arrestand fire evacuation.
Assess patient care needs and develop, implement and evaluate plans ofcare, ensuring high standards of evidence‑based practice using establishedmodels of care.
Act as a circulating member of the Theatre team when required.
To undertake on call sessions as required.
To act as a resource, supporting and motivating staff members. Prepare,teach and demonstrate theatre practice, applying theory to research basedpractice.
Participate, contribute and develop plans of action based on qualityimprovement activities (audit, feedback, inspection findings etc.)
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
