Job description

The University of Liverpool is a Russell Group University with a wide variety of academic and non-academic activities.

An opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced Radiation Protection Adviser/Radioactive Waste Adviser/Laser Protection Adviser to join the Universitys Radiation Protection Office.

You will lead a small team and will have responsibility for maintaining, developing and advising on implementation of the Universitys policies and procedures in relation to radiation safety, the management of radioactive materials/waste, environmental protection and legislative compliance. You will provide advice and practical guidance on all aspects of ionising and non-ionising radiation safety to a variety of University departments; these include academic research and teaching departments in the fields of physical sciences and engineering, health and life sciences and the Universitys veterinary hospitals and practice

In addition, key functions of the role include advising on and monitoring compliance with legislation and environmental permits, liaising with external regulatory bodies, carrying out regular audits and inspections of University departments, overseeing management of the Universitys central radioactive waste service and the provision of training to staff and students.

You should have:

Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific subject

Certificates of Competence to act as a Radiation Protection Adviser, Radioactive Waste Adviser and Laser Protection Adviser

Experience as a professional RPA, RWA and LPA in a complex multi-disciplinary environment, preferably within the Higher Education or Research sector

Excellent communication skills at all levels

Flexibility in approach, excellent communication skills and the ability to lead a team are essential.

This role is eligible for sponsorship under the skilled worker route
