About the role:

Lanes Group Ltd is seeking a qualified, experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial department. Your role will be to support commercial best practices to maximize value and minimize risk and cost for both Lanes Group Ltd and our customers. You will accurately value works undertaken, provide records to substantiate costs where necessary, manage change control processes effectively in both Main and Subcontract contexts, and manage client relationships at the contract level.

Location: Various depots and utilities hubs (ideally based in the South of England)

Hours: 37.5 hours (Monday - Friday)

Salary: £55,000 - £60,000

Responsibilities – but not limited to:

• Review commercial processes to ensure relevance and recommend necessary changes.
• Maintain contractual knowledge to communicate effectively with relevant parties and ensure understanding of project/contract terms.
• Work efficiently and calmly to meet tight deadlines and manage stress factors.
• Ensure maximum recovery of all contractual entitlements.
• Use performance data to identify opportunities and implement commercial processes to realize contractual entitlements and opportunities.
• Support operational teams in daily commercial and contractual aspects.
• Ensure proper contractual administration of assigned contracts/projects, including value and cost control, and maintenance of contemporaneous records.
• Accurately value works undertaken and provide records to substantiate costs, facilitating prompt payment applications in line with contractual timescales.
• Manage change control processes effectively, including the production of early warnings and variations, maximizing entitlement.
• Prepare financial statements related to projects/contracts, working with operational teams to understand financial positions and promote commercial awareness across the business.
• Support the development of individuals within the commercial team.
• Accept additional duties as situations arise.
• Manage subcontract accounts.
• Be willing to travel and stay overnight occasionally.

Skills and behaviours:

• HNC in Quantity Surveying or similar qualification
• Undergraduate degree in Quantity Surveying or similar (advantageous)
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in utilities or civils industry (desirable)
• Experience in a QS role
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Strong commercial and financial acumen
• Good knowledge of contracts
• Ability to maintain client relationships without compromising contractual entitlements
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
