Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust operates 3 workplace nurseries, providing high‑quality, compassionate care for children aged 0 to 5 years. Our nurseries are vital hubs, primarily supporting the dedicated NHS staff to enable them to go to work, while we look after their children.

Role Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Nursery Nurse/Early Years educator to join the committed team at Rainbow Nursery in the Crawley hospital site. You will be immersed in a supportive environment, focused entirely on nurturing young minds and helping them thrive. Main Duties
  • Support the Nursery Management team.
  • Assist in the daily operation of the playroom for the assigned age group.
  • Support other Nursery nurses in their daily duties.
  • Work in partnership with parents and outside organisations.
  • Provide high‑quality physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for all children at the nursery and contribute to service development.
Communication and Working Relationships
  • Communicate with external organisations, agencies, childcare professionals, OFSTED, and parents using various methods, both verbal and electronic, and report back to the Nursery Management Team.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff members on various subjects.
  • Attend meetings when applicable.
  • Interact with all children at their level.
Team Leadership
  • Collaborate within a team, offering leadership, support, and delegation to all staff in the designated age group.
  • Represent the nursery and comply with SCFT policies and procedures.
  • Maintain nursery standards in conjunction with SCFT and Nursery policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Health and Safety is consistently upheld in the designated playroom, nursery, and hospital premises.
  • Work with the Nursery Management team and Estates Department to promptly address building and maintenance needs for safety.
Childcare and Curriculum
  • Work with all age groups in the nursery as required.
  • Provide an engaging curriculum of activities appropriate for the children in the Nursery, aligned with Ofsted requirements and tailored to each child's individual learning needs.
  • Ensure the inclusion of all children.
  • Possess a good knowledge of child development, child legislation, Early Years Foundation stage, and keep abreast of current trends in early years care.
Parent Engagement
  • Support and attend parents’ evenings and Parent Nursery Group meetings, when required.
  • Liaise with and support parents, carers, and family members during their child's nursery attendance, aiding the child’s learning and development, while ensuring the allocated playroom team member does the same.
Administrative Duties
  • Record and report any accidents or incidents involving children or staff in the playroom to the Nursery Management Team.
  • Ensure a risk assessment for activities undertaken within the allocated playroom and nursery premises.
  • Cover all child observations and next steps when the allocated playroom is empty.
  • Report to the Nursery Management Team any child reportable sickness.
  • Undertake training as required and support any special projects.
  • Support the development of the nursery teams within the allocated playroom.
  • Maintain good staff relations, support, and efficient working team and effective communication within the nursery and the allocated playroom.
  • Attend team meetings inside and outside working hours and help write the agenda.
  • Support Trainee Nursery Nurses, students and other unqualified workers while in the nursery.
  • Identify and meet own and others training needs within the allocated playroom.
  • Support the Management Team in completing nursery inductions with all new staff, visitors and students, including policies and procedures, health and safety, routines etc.
