Job description
Overview

Working 37 hours per week for 52 weeks per year. Core hours for this team are 06.30am - 18:00pm, however flexibility is a required as the Site Team support early and late opening of the College as required, for example Open Evenings, or opening early for the Exams Team.

You will learn the ins and outs of maintaining a safe, efficient, and welcoming college environment while gaining practical experience and working toward an industry-recognised qualification. The successful candidate will gain experience in electrical, plumbing, carpentry and grounds maintenance; as well as developing a clear understanding of compliance checks and legislation.

Responsibilities
  1. Performing basic maintenance tasks (e.g., painting, carpentry, plumbing, tiling repairs)
  2. Complying with health & safety protocols, safeguarding guidelines, and college policies
  3. Assisting with the security of the building and grounds
Candidate profile / Qualifications
  1. Has a keen interest, or some experience in working in Property of any type
  2. Is working or has worked in a customer focused role would be advantageous
  3. Has strong organisation skills with attention to detail
  4. Understands issues relating to equality, diversity, health and safety and the safeguarding of young people
  5. Possesses GCSEs in English/Maths (minimum grade 4) to be considered for Admissions into the Apprentice Training Programme
  6. Is willing to complete a Level 2 Property Maintenance Apprenticeship (Level 2 Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship | West Herts College), by on-the-job training and assessment

Apprentice salary and eligibility
  • Aged under 19
  • Aged 19 or over in the first year of their apprenticeship
  • Apprentices are entitled to the minimum wage for their age if they are aged 19 or over
  • Apprentices are entitled to the minimum wage for their age if they have completed the first year of their apprenticeship
  • National Minimum Wage
  • 19 to 20: £10.00 per hour, £19,240 annual salary
  • 21 and over: £12.21 per hour, £23,492 annual salary
