Job description

Are you an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in heavy civil engineering within the rail sector?

We’re supporting a major infrastructure programme across London and the South East and are looking for an accomplished PM to join on a freelance basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the delivery of heavy civil engineering works across rail projects (stations, structures, embankments, drainage, utilities, access points, groundworks).
  • Manage project scope, cost, programme, risk, and quality, ensuring works are delivered safely and to required standards (Network Rail, CDM, RISQS).
  • Oversee subcontractors and site teams, chair progress meetings, and ensure clear reporting to senior stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with design, engineering, and commercial teams to drive efficient project delivery.
  • Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships, ensuring consistent communication and performance.
Requirements
  • Proven experience as a PM (or Senior PM) on rail civil engineering projects in the UK.
  • Strong understanding of Network Rail processes, standards, and governance.
  • Excellent programme management, risk control, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple work packages in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
  • PTS, SMSTS, and relevant civil engineering qualifications are highly advantageous
