Overview

Project Manager / Senior Project Manager - Rail (New Station Build)

Location: Okehampton, Devon (2 days), Swindon (1 Day), (home 2 days)

Salary: £70,000 - £85,000 + Car/Allowance + Bupa + Pension + Life Assurance + 25 days holiday (+ birthday off)

The Company

Join a highly respected Tier 1 civil engineering main contractor operating across the Rail & Highways sectors. With impressive growth over the last 5 years, they are now one of the UK\'s leading providers of safe, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions.

As part of a long-term Network Rail Wales & West Buildings & Civils Framework (4 years remaining), the business has been awarded the design and build of five new stations. The first to break ground is the £30m Okehampton Interchange Station, and we\'re now seeking a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager to lead its delivery.

The Role

As Project Manager, you will take ownership of the successful delivery of Okehampton Interchange Station — from site mobilisation through to handover — ensuring all aspects are delivered to specification, quality, time, and budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the successful delivery of rail enhancement projects, ensuring compliance with safety standards, specifications, and industry best practices.
  • Develop and manage project plans, budgets, and resources; monitor progress and implement adjustments where required.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers to maintain clear communication and strong working relationships.
  • Identify risks proactively, implementing mitigation strategies and contingency plans to maintain programme certainty.
  • Provide visible leadership to project teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Report regularly on progress, milestones, and KPIs to senior management and stakeholders.

About You
  • Experienced Project Manager with a track record of delivering rail infrastructure projects up to £20m+.
  • Strong technical understanding of rail structures, new builds, and stations, including design and compliance with industry standards.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills; able to motivate teams and manage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving ability, capable of balancing multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and frameworks.
  • Previous experience working for a Tier 1 contractor within Network Rail frameworks (Wales & Western region desirable).
  • Relevant qualifications in Project Management, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical/Electrical disciplines.
