A health service provider in Annfield Plain seeks a Project Lead to enhance a stop smoking service. This role involves overseeing training and engagement activities, fostering partnerships, and implementing marketing strategies. Salary is competitive, ranging from £27,000 to £32,000 based on experience.
ABL Health have been commissioned by Durham County Council to deliver a high quality and specialist stop smoking service across County Durham. The Project Lead will assist the Head of Service in increasing engagement through leading on marketing, raising the profile of the service through training, and delivering on its social values. This is a varied and exciting role where the post holder will have a real influence on the development of the service. The post holder will take a pro-active lead in building relationships, partnerships, and alliances both internally and externally to increase the number of referrals into the service and expand the reach to the most vulnerable groups.
The post holder must have knowledge of, and preferred experience in, public health, communication leadership, or behaviour-change settings.
We are seeking a dynamic and innovative professional to lead the development and delivery of training, communications, and engagement activities for the Smoke Free County Durham service. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders, local services, and ABLs central marcomms team to raise awareness, drive referrals, and develop strategic partnerships across County Durham. Responsibilities include promoting the service through public events, training sessions, social media, and other communications channels, monitoring referral trends, and implementing innovative solutions to improve engagement and conversion rates. The role involves contributing to regional and national tobacco control campaigns, maintaining and updating a partnership database, and supporting multi-disciplinary meetings. You will lead service development initiatives, ensuring alignment with social value objectives, and manage a digital marketing and communications officer as well as a community engagement coordinator. This position requires effective workload planning, a proactive approach to building relationships with key stakeholders, and a willingness to embrace new ideas. Lead in the development and delivery of training to a wide range of stakeholders to facilitate increased referrals into the service.
Work with ABLs central marcomms team to raise the profile of the service.
Engage with local services and partners to ensure local awareness and explore partnership opportunities and co-production activities.
Work closely with operational colleagues to monitor and manage the referral rates, identifying trends and developing innovative and effective solutions to dips in referral and conversion rates
Develop mutually advantageous partnerships with all potential referrers across County Durham.
Lead in the promotion and advertisement of the Smoke free County Durham service.
Develop and update the partnership database with all contacts including required follow up contact and strategic developments required.
Input to multi -disciplinary meetings as required.
Work in partnership with stakeholders to disseminate regional and national campaigns related to the tobacco control agenda including FRESH, smokefree homes and messages around vaping.
Lead on the development and implementation of Smokefree Durham communications strategy (e.g. public open events, training and awareness raising sessions, communications materials, social media etc.) to promote the service and capture referrals.
Develop, monitor, and report on social media activity for the service to increase engagement and raise the profile of the service.
Monitor and report on referral numbers and sources, to inform short- and long-term marketing and engagement strategies, ensuring the service is reaching target audiences and communities.
Support the Head of Service and work with the other Project Leads to identify, engage, and develop relationships with key stakeholders.
Innovative and open minded to new ideas.
Work within agreed boundaries and relevant policies and standard operating procedures.
Lead on service development around meeting its social values requirements and work closely with relevant colleagues across the organisation to implement and report on this.
Effective line management of a digital marketing and communications officer, and a community engagement coordinator.

Skills and Competencies Required
Be an experienced Health or Communications professional with training experience.
Be experienced in community engagement and partnership working in a community health environment.
Experience of building and maintaining partnerships
Positive and proactive outlook with the ability to motivate, engage and support others to achieve the highest standards and outcomes.
Adept in communication; A strong communicator who adapts the message to fit the needs of the audience including clients, staff, and volunteers at all levels. Including digital communication and social media expertise

The postholder must comply with ABLs policies that protect the information assets of the organisation from unauthorised disclosure, modification, destruction, inappropriate access or use. The postholder will be responsible for maintaining the clinical and/or corporate records that fall within the remit of this role to the standards in ABLs records management policies, and data quality processes and standards.
Health & Safety
Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 the postholder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.

ABL is Smoke - Free. Smoking is not permitted on any of our premises or the surrounding land including car parking facilities.
Training
The postholder must attend any training that is identified as mandatory to their role.
