Job Description

  • Lead and shape the product development road map using customer and market insight to create programmes aimed at expanding opportunities in its target markets.
  • Drive the product development activity, working with internal resources (engineering, production, content creation, sales) and external suppliers (sub-contract manufacturers, design and testing houses, content creators, marketing agencies), to ensure key milestones are achieved on time and that projects are successfully delivered, supported with appropriate launch materials and activities.
  • Assess and manage third-party development opportunities (i.e. bespoke solutions for customers), ensuring profitable volume for the business by delivering successful solutions to customers.
  • Develop customer-focused product literature demonstrating product features and benefits with authoritative language and context.
  • Lead the creation of digital marketing assets to promote the brand and product ranges to target audiences, broadening engagement and ultimately increasing conversion directly and through distribution.
  • Support the sales and operations functions to maximise customer satisfaction and drive positive business performance.
  • Provide guidance and support to nurture the development of direct reports, enabling them to be successful within the business and contribute at pace and with a high level of quality.
  • Participate at key customer-facing events, and visit customers and suppliers as required to achieve the objectives of the business.
  • Manage key agency relationships to ensure that providers adapt swiftly to the changing digital marketing environment and make effective use of scarce marketing resources.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and meeting records with the objective of monitoring and driving project progress and performance.
  • Be operationally hands-on with content creation, website management and development as required to support team members and accelerate activity where appropriate.
  • Participate as a full member of the business's executive management team, comprising Sales, Marketing, Operations and the owner.

The Successful Applicant

  1. A minimum of 10 years' experience in a product marketing and/or product development role. Experience in a B2B or similar FMCG manufacturing organisation would be beneficial.
  2. Demonstrable experience in leading teams in a matrix-style organisation to deliver projects on-time and on budget.
  3. Ability to understand customer needs and market opportunities in order to create product development briefs and supporting marketing content.
  4. Proven experience leading content creation for a product-focused organisation using a combination of internal and external resources.
  5. Experience in writing product-related content with customer audiences in mind.
  6. Demonstrated organisational skills.
  7. Ability to analyse reporting data across varying systems, e.g. use of pivot tables in Excel and MRP system reports.
  8. Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint required. Experience of video graphics editing software preferred.
  9. Clean driving licence and ability to travel for meetings in the UK.
