Overview

Process Engineer - Balfour Beatty (@one Alliance) | Location: Peterborough. The Alliance is a collaboration between Anglian Water and eight industry-leading partners: Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO. Together, we deliver around 40% of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme. As we enter AMP8, we’re taking on nature-based, sustainable solutions like wetlands and urban drainage schemes and providing opportunities for career growth.

What you’ll be doing
  • Support the delivery of process design activities, ensuring they meet safety, technical, and quality requirements.
  • Prepare and contribute to design deliverables, including mass balances, hydraulic calculations, P&IDs, and process flow diagrams.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to support design reviews and incorporate feedback.
  • Assist with design development tasks, contributing to the resolution of technical challenges.
  • Ensure designs follow relevant health, safety, and environmental standards, including hazardous area regulations (DSEAR).
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by applying innovative design approaches and supporting digital tools.
  • Support engagement with stakeholders and suppliers as required to progress design work.
  • Promote sustainable design practices and support carbon-reduction objectives across project delivery.
Who we're looking for

We’re seeking a motivated and conscientious Process Engineer with water or wastewater experience and a desire to develop their technical expertise.

  • A degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience within the water sector or a related process-driven industry.
  • A good understanding of process design principles, standards, and environmental considerations.
  • Experience producing or contributing to technical design deliverables.
  • An interest in progressing towards chartership (support provided).
  • Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental requirements within engineering projects.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with a collaborative and proactive approach.
  • A genuine interest in sustainability and delivering environmentally responsible engineering solutions.

Depending on your skills, experience, and interests, you could be aligned to one of the Alliance’s four business units:

  • Place Based Thinking: large, complex projects across six Senior Project Manager teams, managing networks from rising and gravity mains to water recycling centres.
  • Water: strategic support across the clean water network, system performance, and infrastructure planning.
  • Water Recycling (East and West): responsible for collection, conveyance, and treatment of wastewater across a large network.
