Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to join a local authority in the North West on a full-time hybrid contract. This role involves managing housing enforcement casework, ensuring compliance with housing standards, and improving conditions in the private rented sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of private sector properties under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
  • Investigate complaints and take enforcement action where necessary.
  • Prepare and serve statutory notices in line with housing legislation.
  • Liaise with landlords, tenants, and other stakeholders to resolve housing issues.
  • Maintain accurate records and produce detailed reports of inspections and enforcement actions.
  • Attend site visits and office meetings as required.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Council's housing strategy and objectives.
Requirements
Qualifications / Skills & Experience
  • Strong knowledge of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 2004.
  • Proven experience in private sector housing enforcement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload independently and meet deadlines.
Essential
  • HHSRS certification.
  • Previous experience in housing enforcement within a local authority or similar setting.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with council procedures and reporting systems.
  • Previous hybrid working experience.

  • Contract Duration: 6 months
