Job summary

A technology consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer / Tech Lead for a contract role. This position requires leading a small engineering team, making architectural decisions, and managing the end-to-end software development lifecycle within a hybrid environment based in Canary Wharf. The ideal candidate will have strong full-stack engineering skills, experience in team mentoring, and knowledge in infrastructure automation and containerisation.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Principal Engineer or Tech Lead in SaaS environments, ideally in financial services.
• Strong background in full-stack engineering.
• Proven experience in team leadership and mentoring.
• Solid understanding of modern infrastructure automation and containerised services.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a small team of engineers, providing technical guidance.
• Own architectural decisions and produce technical specifications.
• Drive end-to-end SDLC ownership, including test strategy and release management.
• Leverage AI tools within the SDLC to improve engineering velocity.
• Contribute across the full stack: front-end, middleware, and backend/data services.
• Manage infrastructure considerations across public cloud and on-prem environments.
