Principal Social Worker – Child Protection

Location: Truro, Mid Cornwall
Contract: 12 weeks initially (potential extension)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:45am–5:15pm
Start: ASAP until 8th March

We are seeking an experienced Principal Social Worker to support a busy Child Protection Team in Mid Cornwall. The role involves delivering high-quality statutory social work, contributing to safeguarding practice, and providing professional leadership within the team.

Role Overview
  • Lead on Child in Need, Child Protection and Child in Care work.
  • Complete Section 47 enquiries, assessments and reports.
  • Chair meetings and support management with decision-making.
  • Undertake home visits and direct work with children.
  • Provide supervision to staff and deputise for the Team Manager.
  • Participate in duty as required.
Requirements
  • Qualified and registered Social Worker.
  • Strong frontline statutory experience.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a management structure.
  • Access to own transport for travel across Cornwall.
