Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative, award-winning London-based Material Science company. They are leaders within their field and are entering an exciting phase of scale-up and commercialisation. Due to the natural growth of the business, they are looking for a Principal Process Development Scientist to join the team.

What you’ll be doing
  • Lead the design, optimisation, and scale-up of bio-based material processes from lab to industrial scale.
  • Oversee process validation and optimisation across key unit operations.
  • Develop safe, cost-effective, and sustainable scale-up strategies.
  • Act as subject matter expert while managing and mentoring a multidisciplinary team.
  • Plan and deliver projects on time, on budget, and to quality standards.
  • Collaborate with R&D, engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure smooth technology transfer.
  • Guide equipment specification, plant design, and process integration for industrialisation.
  • Apply DoE and statistical tools to optimise efficiency and identify critical parameters.
  • Drive innovation in process intensification, sustainability, and cost reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
What they are looking for
  • PhD in Chemical Engineering (or related) with 10+ years’ industrial process development experience.
  • Proven success scaling chemical/biochemical processes to manufacturing.
  • Strong expertise in unit operations, process design, and optimisation (DoE/statistical methods).
  • Experienced leader with project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Track record of delivering safe, sustainable, and commercially viable processes.
