Principal Engineer – Contract – EC&I – Staffordshire – Outside IR35

Role: Principal Engineer (Electrical Control & Instrumentation – EC&I)

Location: Hybrid – Stafford office (3 days/week) & remote (2 days/week). Commutable from Stoke, Stafford, Cannock, Lichfield, Telford, Uttoxeter, Stone. Occasional customer site visits.

Contract Duration: 6‑month contract

IR35 Status: Outside IR35

Day Rate: £500‑£585 per day

Clearance: Must hold a British passport (no dual nationality accepted) and be eligible for SC Security Clearance.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer or Lead Engineer to manage and lead project teams, delivering essential Electrical Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) systems within the nuclear defence sector.

This crucial contract role (Outside IR35) requires a professional with robust leadership skills to initiate, oversee, and lead all engineering activities across assigned projects. You will act as the primary point of contact for high‑level stakeholder engagement and management.

Key responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Take full charge of and lead project teams delivering electrical control systems, industrial software, and electrical safety systems.
  • Engineering Oversight: Oversee team activities, provide guidance, and overcome complex problems to ensure project success.
  • Quality & Standards: Demonstrate knowledge of working to ISO 9001 standards.
  • Security: Must be a British passport holder and have lived in the UK for at least the last 5 years. Dual nationality cannot be accepted. Current SC level clearance is an advantage but not essential; full clearance will be processed.
  • Location: Flexible hybrid working model based from the Stafford office (3 days) and home (2 days).
