Our client is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to join their busy Manchester office. Reporting to the Associate Director / Associate Engineer, you will lead large civil project teams or oversee multiple smaller teams, ensuring projects are delivered to cost, schedule, and quality criteria. This is a senior leadership role requiring strong technical expertise and the ability to inspire multidisciplinary teams across diverse engineering challenges.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of civil engineering designs across major projects.
  • Ensure compliance with business quality and management systems.
  • Manage resources, skills, and project teams effectively.
  • Oversee civil and structural design elements including earthworks, drainage, highways, foundations, and external works.
  • Implement change and innovation as directed by senior leadership.
  • Maintain client satisfaction through successful project delivery.
Essential skills
  • Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Chartered Civil / Structural Engineer (CEng MICE / MIStructE).
  • Strong knowledge of current civil and structural design codes and standards.
  • Experience with CDM regulations and health & safety compliance.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex projects across sectors such as nuclear, defence, rail, highways, and life sciences.
  • Ability to work within integrated, multi-discipline design teams.
