Constable
Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) is at the forefront of helping to protect the UK from terrorist attacks. Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands (CTPWM) coordinates the regional counter terrorist response and provides specialist support to police forces in Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Mercia and the West Midlands.
Constables interested in Counter Terrorism are invited to apply for a regional Prevent role, working with local authority partners and community organisations to help find solutions and work to support and protect susceptible people from extremism.
We have vacancies based in the Western Hub of West Midlands Police. The role involves shift and weekend working between the hours of 0800 - 2000hrs on a rotational basis. An element of flexibility is necessary to meet operational requirements.
The successful applicant must be fully deployable (unrestricted) and be prepared to deploy across the region when necessary.
As a Prevent Case Officer, you’ll reassure and manage the safety and protection of those most susceptible of being drawn into terrorism.
You’ll identify and safeguard the most susceptible by dynamically assessing the level of risk and determining appropriate safeguarding intervention(s), including remedies available through the criminal and civil courts, as well as support available from other partner organisations.
You’ll drive and deliver the Prevent agenda across the wider policing family, facilitating engagement between policing teams, partner organisations and communities. The role has a strong focus on partnership working and you’ll attend and contribute at multi‑agency strategy discussions to determine if children are at significant risk of harm and assist in the preparation and delivery of effective multi‑agency safety plans, as well as professional meetings for vulnerable adults.
You’ll hold responsibility for case management enquiries, conducting vulnerability assessments, delivering case‑management tactics, as well as conducting sensitive briefings and attending Prevent meetings internally and externally.
We work in partnership to safeguard people following their referral into Prevent, until the conclusion of intervention work, which can include the Channel multi‑agency programme, which aims to divert those who are susceptible to being drawn into terrorism. For the most vulnerable, which includes those with mental ill‑health and complex needs, intervention plans are developed through our Clinical Consultancy Service.
You’ll have the skills and motivation to be part of an evolving, dedicated team serving diverse communities. Prior experience of safeguarding procedures is therefore being sought & would be advantageous.
Please note that this role falls under Category A under the Winsor Adjusted Duties categories. Officers with Winsor Adjusted Duties categories that match the required category for this role will be considered before candidates in other categories. In some cases, a candidate may be rejected based on their Winsor Adjusted Duties category. For example, if a Police Officer with a category D applies for a category A role without supporting evidence from Occupational Health, their application may not be progressed. Conversely, if a category D role is being advertised, priority consideration will be given to candidates in category D. This approach ensures that West Midlands Police balances its operational requirements with supporting career progression for colleagues.
⇄ This position is offered as a permanent post to WMP or a 2‑year secondment. To qualify for the latter, you must confirm in your application that you have received approval, through the process established by your Chief Officer, for secondment to another force.
⚠ This post requires British nationality (some dual nationalities may be ineligible) and Enhanced Security Check.
You will need to undergo additional security clearance checks, with the offer of employment being conditional on obtaining all of the necessary security clearances.
There are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries once in post.

We are a Disability Confident Leader – the highest level an organisation can achieve under the scheme run by the Department of Work and Pensions. As part of our commitment we operate a Disability Confident Interview Scheme – all candidates who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role will be offered an interview.
It is important to note that there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled people who meet the essential criteria for the job. For example, in certain recruitment situations such as high‑volume, seasonal and high‑peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non‑disabled people. In these circumstances, the employer could select the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job, as they would do for non‑disabled applicants.
We reserve the right to close this advertisement early if the maximum volume of applications has been reached. Candidates with unsubmitted applications will not be informed prior to the advert closing.
Please do not attach a CV/covering letter as these will not be used during the application process.
