Independent Health Group (IHG) has an opportunity for a Pre and Post Operative Practitioner to join our friendly team on a part time basis working up to 22.5 hours per week Monday - Friday with the occasional Saturday as required.

Main duties of the job
As a registered practitioner you will deliver high quality clinical care through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care. You'll assist with triage and pre-operative assessment for patients undergoing Local Anaesthetic for Hernia, Carpal Tunnel, Cataract, Vasectomy and Podiatry.
Working closely with the Patient Administration Team, Clinicians and Clinical Nursing teams to ensure excellent safe patient preparation for surgery and a seamless patient journey through the patient pathway.
There is scope within this role to undertake patient facing clinical duties including admission and discharging of patients on the day of surgery.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
Working in accordance withIHGs values, the NMC or HCPC codes of professional conduct, and IHG policiesand procedures, the Theatre Practitioner will provide high quality nursing careand treatment to patients within the operating theatre department andclinics.
Responsibilities include:
- Undertake nursing assessment of thepatient to ensure optimal fitness for surgery, some under supervision ifrequired. Ensuring patients are fully informed of the planned treatment,including post-operative care and instructions.
- Workautonomously within their scope of practice, following the NICE, national andlocal organisational guidelines.
- Manage acaseload and prioritise to facilitate an efficient service
- Assist the referral team in triaging patients within IHG and CCGcriteria
- Undertake telephone pre-operative assessment of patients, ensuringthey are fit and suitable for surgery on the date allocated, taking an activepart in developing the pre-assessment process to be nurse-led whereappropriate.
- Act as a resource for the understanding of the care pathway, toensure completion of accurate information and assessment
- To act as the patient advocate at all times throughout the patientpathway. To recognise the significanceof any observations made and use those to highlight situations which may bedetrimental to the health and wellbeing of the patient, and to ensure all testresults are available for the day of surgery.
- To provide information about the pre-operative, intra-operative andpost-operative process, ensuring the patient understands the proposed procedureand any specific instructions.
- Monitor and report on patient conditions to the medical staff, ensuringall members of the health care team are kept informed of the changing needs ofthe patient.
- Assist in the planning and organisation of post-operative patientcare by liaising with other Primary Care providers.
- Undertake post-operative and follow up calls to the patients and managethe daily call list.
- To be responsible for the keeping of accurate and confidential records,for patients and staff.
- Can manage themselves, and their workload, both individually and as a team member.
- To support the development of the Nurse led pre-assessment andpost-operative clinics, using appropriate information systems and ensuringcompliance with best practice, within an appropriate framework, i.e. NMC / HCPCscope of Professional Practice.
- To assess, plan, implement and evaluate care as part of a collaborativeprogramme of patient care.
- To deliver high quality patient care, which is clinically effective,evidence based and appropriate.
- To participate in integrated governance and risk assessment activities,reporting these as required.
- To report clinical incidents and complete all associated documentationas required.
- Support the Governance Team with any CQUIN reporting relevant to therole.
- The post holderis responsible for ensuring that best use is made of all resources. To considercost and service improvement but ensuring high quality care is maintained.
- To participate inthe clinical governance agenda and support the audit process within own area.To participate in reviewing and enhancing standards of care

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Degree in relevant field, or equivalent experience
- RGN
- Evidence of continuous professional development
Knowledge and Skills
- Sound knowledge of the national service framework and NICE guidelines, and application of such policies within the pre-assessment setting.
- Planning, prioritisation and organisational skills
- Understands the importance of delivering high quality clinical care and the factors that influence it.
- Able to communicate effectively with patients from different backgrounds with differing levels of understanding.
- Able to present written and verbal information clearly and concisely, and handle questions.
- Understand the importance of team work and their role within the multi-disciplinary team
