Job summary

We are now seeking an experienced and motivated General Practice Manager to lead the day-to-day management of the practice and support our continued development. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a small practice setting and wants to make a real impact.

The General Practice Manager will have overall responsibility for the smooth and effective running of the practice. You will work closely with the GP partners and clinical team, providing leadership across operations, finance, HR, compliance, and patient services.

A key part of this role will be the opportunity to help design, recruit, and develop a new Assistant Practice Manager role, supporting future growth and ensuring the practice is well positioned for the years ahead.

We are looking for someone who is proactive, organised, and confident in a leadership role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Overall management of the practice's daily operations
  • Strategic planning and development in collaboration with GP partners
  • Financial management, including budgeting, payroll oversight, income streams and the dispensary
  • HR management, including recruitment, staff development, appraisals, and performance management
  • Leading on compliance with CQC, NHS contractual requirements, and information governance
  • Managing patient services, complaints, and patient engagement
  • Supporting and mentoring the Assistant Practice Manager once recruited
  • Liaising with external stakeholders such as the ICB, PCN, and other local services
Qualifications
  • Evidence of a sound education to A Level standard or equivalent
  • Evidence of a commitment to continuing professional development
  • Relevant management or healthcare qualification (desirable)
  • Degree level certification (desirable)
Experience
  • Previous experience in general practice management or a senior management role within primary care
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Sound understanding of NHS primary care operations and regulations
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Experience of recruiting and developing new roles or teams (desirable)
  • Experience working in a small or developing practice environment (desirable)

Oughtibridge Surgery is a small, friendly GP practice serving our local community. We pride ourselves on providing high-quality, patient-centred care and maintaining a supportive and collaborative working environment for our team. Our list size is just over 6000 patient and we are a dispensing practice. We implemented total triage in 2024 which is going well for both GPs and patients.
