Job summary

A leading healthcare organization in Southampton is seeking a full-time Practice Educator to join its Neonatal Education Team. The ideal candidate will support the development of clinical education for non-registered and junior staff. Essential qualifications include a Registered Nurse or Midwife, Specialist Neonatal Qualification, and experience in neonatal care. Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time, band 6, Practice Educator to join our expanding Neonatal Education Team in Southampton. We are looking to appoint a highly knowledgeable, motivated and skilled neonatal Nurse to support the development of students and staff within the unit.

You will hold the Neonatal Qualified in Speciality Qualification and have experience in caring for complex babies requiring ventilatory / respiratory support, including high frequency oscillation ventilation and nitric oxide. Previous experience of teaching students and staff in clinical practice would be an advantage.

Working closely with the Lead Educator and the other practice educators within the unit, you will be primarily supporting the education of non-registered staff and junior staff within the neonatal unit. This will include the management of pre-registration learners on placement, educational support of band 2-4 staff and skills training with nurses on the QIS Foundation & Speciality programmes.

Within this role you will support and facilitate clinical learning within Neonatal services which will ultimately enhance the quality of care that the babies & their families receive.

You will facilitate multi-disciplinary and inter-departmental learning and simulation activities, including classroom-based teaching.

You will act as a resource and role model for staff on all aspects of clinical education.

You will have the following qualifications / experience:

  • Registered Nurse (Adult or Child) or Registered Midwife Qualification
  • Specialist Neonatal Qualified in Speciality qualification
  • First level degree preferable and / or relevant neonatal experience
  • Evidence of mentor / practice assessor / coaching qualification and / or evidence of supporting learners in clinical practice
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Neonatal Life Support qualification
  • Experience as a band 5 Qualified in Speciality neonatal nurse
  • Experience of undertaking clinical audit in practice would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of NMC education standards
  • Ability to be flexible to meet the needs of the team
