Job Summary

The key role of the Practice Development Midwife is working autonomously to support midwifery and nursing staff to provide a high quality clinical service to patients through ensuring they are equipped and supported with the skills to perform their role, in line with the best available evidence for practice.

The role includes the planning and organisation of an ongoing education programme for the multi‑disciplinary team including Maternity, Early Pregnancy Services and Medical Students to promote continuous learning.

Responsibilities
  • Take the lead in the development of an environment which challenges and questions practice and promotes and develops the quality of thinking amongst practitioners.
  • Develop and deliver formal and informal education provision, actively participating in the provision of education for staff (individual or groups) and evaluating education programmes based on evidence‑based practice.
  • Work with the Heads of Service identifying knowledge/skills gaps of staff and developing appropriate training to support staff developing their clinical knowledge, skills and competence in order to meet both Personal Development Plan objectives and the identified needs of the Maternity and Early Pregnancy services.
  • Be responsible for the planning, organising and coordinating of ongoing teaching programmes to ensure the clinical skills of the multi‑disciplinary team are maintained in line with evidence based practice, in particular the annual mandatory PROMPT programme, NLS/BLS and manual handling.
Qualifications

Knowledge (Essential)

  • Bachelor degree in Midwifery
  • NMC Registration

Knowledge (Desirable)

  • PROMPT facility lead

Other Essential

  • Experienced and enthusiastic midwife

Other Desirable

  • Manual Handling trainer
  • Welsh Language Skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are Desirable for this Role.

Experience (Essential)

  • Wide range of midwifery experience
  • Midwife with significant post qualification experience

Welsh Skills (Desirable)
