Closing date: 26th January 2026

Salary: c£40,000 per annum

We also offer 26 days’ annual leave (+ public holidays) on starting, matched pension contributions up to 5 percent, enhanced pay when taking leave as your family grows, income protection insurance, a health‑cash plan and a wide range of wellbeing and mental health support services.

Location: Our office is based near Stoneleigh in Warwickshire. We typically work there 2–3 days a week, with flexibility to work remotely. You’re also welcome to work in the office more frequently.

Hours: Our usual full-time hours are 35 a week — with an early finish on a Friday! We offer other flexible work options, such as compressed hours, which we’re happy to discuss.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Create a PR and external communications calendar and plan that supports the Society’s charitable objectives.
  • Proactively seek out, package and place stories that are relevant and appealing to the media.
  • Be responsible for and manage a PR Assistant. Develop, mentor and inspire to ensure they achieve their objectives.
  • Writing, editing and distribution of PR content (releases, imagery, coverage, links, and social) across relevant channels.
  • Coordination and preparation of PR & Communication materials e.g., briefing spokespeople, internal briefings, media Q&A’s, statements etc
  • Liaising with key spokespeople, journalists and stakeholders. Writing quotes and delivering comments for print, online and broadcast press.
  • Handle media enquiries through the press enquires inbox and press line, effectively, efficiently, and helpfully to achieve press coverage and forge relationships with journalists
  • Working with the Head of Communications to coordinate and manage crisis communications activities, including out of hours. This will include covering the out of hours press office on a rota basis.
What you won’t be doing:
  • Having the same work day, every day is different.

  • Speaking to the same people everyday – this role is all about communicating with people across
  • the entire organisation, as well as media, stakeholders, partners, volunteers and supports.
This is a great role for you if:
  • Excellent copy writing skills and the ability to write copy for a variety of PR channels and audiences
  • Strong execution skills - able to juggle a demanding and varied workload, working to tight deadlines under pressure
  • Strong stakeholder management - articulate and personable with good interpersonal skills and the ability to influence at all levels
  • Enthusiasm, initiative and commitment to drive the process

We’re excited that you’re thinking about applying to British Horse Society. To help you make the strongest impression, here are a few friendly tips:

  • AI tools can be handy, but they don’t always hit the mark when it comes to the specific stuff we’re looking for
  • We really want to hear your voice — your experiences, your skills and what makes you, well, you!
  • If you lean too much on AI-generated content, your application might end up sounding a bit generic — and that could hurt your chances.

So, keep it real, keep it personal and show us what you’re all about.
