Synchronicity Care Limited (SCL)/CDD Services are a whollyowned subsidiary company of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust(CDDFT). SCL/CDD Services provides a range of non-clinical Estates, Facilities and Procurement services to CDDFT.

SCL/CDD Services are looking to recruit a conscientious, flexible, enthusiastic and customer focussed individual to join our Portering and Transport Team based at University Hospital North Durham (UHND).

Porter/Drivers are responsible for providing support services to the Trusts clinical teams, incorporating the movement of patients and supplies within the DMH site.

Main duties of the job

Successful post holders must be of a smart appearance, have an ability to communicate well at all levels, be level-headed and remain calm during emergency situations, be able to take instructions yet at times prioritise and act on their own initiative and have a proven ability to work without direct supervision.

A detailed understanding of hospital functions, experience of working with the general public and proven driving experience are desirable however full training will be provided.

The successful applicant must be flexible in their approach to working times, be available to work shifts, weekends and bank holidays when required. There may be occasions where the successful applicant is required to work at other sites within the Trust.

All posts will be subject to a 6 month probation period.

Bank work is offered on an 'as and when' basis with no guaranteed hours and will be paid on a pro-rata hourly rate for hours worked only

Job responsibilities

To provide a high quality Portering and Transport service as part of the CDD Services team and ensuring that a continuity of service is maintained whilst adhering to all relevant policies and procedures.

Provide a courteous, efficient Portering and Transport service within the trust.

To project a friendly and professional attitude to all patients, staff and visitors and to demonstrate product knowledge when enquiries are made.

Transport

Clean and maintain Portering/Transport equipment

Collection and delivery of specimens/pharmacy items/notes and other correctly packaged items

Mortuary duties

Delivery of supplies

Respond to and participate in emergency procedures (fire, cardiac arrest etc.)

Transport and change medical gas cylinders

Assist any other staff when required

Move furniture and equipment

Any other appropriate duties as required

Person Specification
Special Skills and Knowledge
  • Able to take instructions yet at times prioritise and act on own initiative.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence with proven driving experience. A detailed understanding of all hospital functions.
Experience
  • A proven ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Worked within a customer facing environment and experience of working within a fast paced team.
Qualifications
  • Good written / verbal communication skills, flexible, motivated, keen, able to work as part of a team & individually and must have good levels of personal hygiene.
