Port Supervisor

£40,000 - £42,000 per annum + Bonus

Monday – Friday, Days (rotating 6 am and 9 am starts)

A leading bulk terminal operation is seeking an experienced Supervisor to join its busy team. The successful candidate will lead a group of approximately 18 employees, plus ad hoc agency staff, ensuring that all operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

This hands‑on supervisory role is essential to maintaining productivity and ensuring the smooth discharge and loading of vessels. The postholder will promote a safety‑first culture, manage day‑to‑day operations, and coordinate closely with management, customers, and third‑party workers.

Working Hours

Monday – Friday, rotating weekly shifts (typically 6:00 or 9:00 starts, 9 hours per day).

180 hours per month, rotating shifts (typically 6:00 or 9:00 start, 9‑hour days)

Availability required on alternate weekends, depending on vessel schedules.

The Candidate

Previous experience as a port supervisor is highly desired.

Experience working in an industrial, warehouse, or port environment.

Proven supervisory or team leader experience.

Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Ability to work flexibly to meet operational demands, including weekends on rotation.

Previous experience within port or bulk operations is highly desirable.

Familiarity with operating heavy plant and machinery (FLT, wheel loader, skid steer, bobcat, shovel experience desirable).

Knowledge of SCADA or Destn8 systems is advantageous.

Vessel working or logistics experience is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise operational teams to ensure compliance with all safety systems and procedures.
  • Oversee vessel discharge and loading operations, including berthing checks and daily coordination.
  • Plan and allocate work to maintain efficiency and minimise overtime.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and incident investigations.
  • Prepare and review risk assessments and standard operating procedures.
  • Complete audits of equipment, PPE, housekeeping, and safety compliance.
  • Liaise effectively with customers, surveyors, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records using company systems.
  • Deputise for senior management when required.
