Overview

Job Role: Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance Plumber) – Location: HMP Feltham (TW13) – Salary: £41,818.21 per annum + 5% for shift work covering weekends – Contract: Permanent, 39 hours per week, Monday to Sunday

We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to join our team at HMP Feltham, a category C prison and a YOI holding young people from 15 and men up to 30 years old.

HMP Feltham runs like a self-contained city, and as the Facilities Maintenance Team we are committed to driving the smooth and safe operation. Everything we do impacts every prisoner, employee, visitor, and their wider families and community.

As a Mechanical Engineer you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced colleagues across trades, including Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners, and Administrators, all dedicated to creating a safe and secure environment.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of the Facilities Maintenance Team to support safe, secure, and efficient operation of the site’s mechanical and plumbing systems.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across trades to complete planned and reactive maintenance with a focus on safety and quality.
  • Contribute to improvements in water and heating systems in a commercial/industrial environment.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and regulatory requirements relevant to water supply, Legionella L8 controls, and associated legislation.
  • Operate in a framework that supports rehabilitation and positive outcomes for those in the facility.
Qualifications
  • Two years' experience in a role as a plumber or equivalent.
  • Familiar with Water Supply Regulations and Control of Legionella L8 requirements.
  • Experience working on commercial or industrial heating and water systems.
  • Good working knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements.
  • Plumber qualified to C&G 6035 (Plumbing), C&G 6189 (Plumbing and Heating) and NVQ level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent.
  • Good Health & Safety knowledge; excellent organisational, time management, and people skills.
