Qualifications

  • Significant experience in senior operational management within energy, power generation, or waste sectors.
  • Strong technical understanding of EfW processes; experience with gasification plants is highly desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications in engineering or equivalent industry experience; NEBOSH, IOSH, or IEMA certifications are advantageous.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex regulatory environments.

Plant Manager - Energy from Waste Operations

Altera Recruitment Group is working in partnership with a leading energy and resource recovery business to appoint an experienced Plant Manager to lead operations at a flagship Energy‑from‑Waste (EfW) near Glasgow. The Plant Manager is a critical leadership role overseeing site performance, compliance, safety, and strategic development to ensure excellence in operations and environmental responsibility.

Key Responsibilities of a Plant Manager
  • Lead day‑to‑day operations of the EfW and MRF site, ensuring compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality (QEH&S) standards.
  • Drive performance by meeting and exceeding plant KPIs, availability, and operational efficiency metrics.
  • Manage all internal teams and external interfaces including contractors, regulators, and service providers.
  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and cost control activities to meet company and client targets.
  • Develop and nurture a high‑performing workforce, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
Candidate Requirements
  • Significant experience in senior operational management, ideally within energy, power generation, or waste sectors.
  • Strong technical understanding of EfW processes – experience with gasification plants is highly desirable.
  • Relevant qualifications in engineering or equivalent industry experience; NEBOSH, IOSH, or IEMA certifications are advantageous.
  • Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams, manage complex regulatory environments, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills at all levels.
