Job Overview

The Senior Pharmacist for Patient Services will assist in leading, delivering, developing and evaluating high‑quality clinical and pharmaceutical services for inpatients and outpatients. The role is based at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, one of the UK’s major specialist centres for infectious diseases, liver and renal transplants, breast and plastic surgery, myeloma and neuroendocrine tumours.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee day‑to‑day service provision, staff allocation and cover in the event of sickness.
  • Ensure the safe use of medicines across the Trust and provide a high‑quality, patient‑focused clinical pharmacy service within a defined specialty.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clinical leads and divisional managers for both inpatient MDTU and outpatient services.
  • Lead operational, clinical and strategic components, including optimisation of digital pathways related to Patient Services.
  • Maintain compliance with local, Trust, professional, ethical and regulatory standards and Key Performance Indicators.
  • Identify and lead quality improvement projects to enhance performance within patient services.
  • Support education and training activities for pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.
  • Dive into compliance with external governance requirements and develop tools to capture, analyse and report performance.
  • Lead training, induction and ongoing development of pharmacy staff.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Pharmacist with experience in a hospital pharmacy setting – particularly in high‑volume or specialty units.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills with the ability to manage staff and resources.
  • Knowledge of national prescribing guidelines, safety protocols and clinical governance.
  • Experience in digital pathway management and performance reporting is desirable.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and problem‑solving skills.

  • NHS AfC: Band 8a
  • Work eligibility: candidates must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom or meet Skilled Worker visa criteria. Sponsorship will be considered for suitable applicants.
