Job description
Overview

A Newly Available Part Time Role working alongside experienced team members to help provide support and care to a cheerful 56-year-old man, who lives in his own home. He has mild learning difficulties, Cerebral Palsy (from birth) and MS since 2012. MS has accelerated the deterioration of the various symptoms he had with the CP. For example, from being quite active - 13 years ago he had just returned from yet another skiing holiday - he is now predominantly chair and bed bound. And has just had hoists fitted for transferring him to and from bed, chairs, shower and wheelchairs. He is still very social, has a great sense of humour and can be a lot of fun, but is inevitably frustrated by his current condition and keeping him cheerful is an important part of the job. You will become part of a dedicated and professional team who together provide 24/7 care. All training will be given to the successful applicant.

Main Duties
  • All personal care tasks, such as showering, toileting and Catheter care and soon to include Stoma care following an operation in early February 2026.
  • Household chores and duties.
  • Cooking and preparing healthy meals (which you can share with him).
  • Administering medication.
  • Supporting him with daily exercises
  • Supporting him at medical appointments
  • Managing his moods when his current condition gets him down.
  • Support him in a range of activities including Art and Crafts, Photography, iPad games, trips out and occasionally introducing him to other activities.
  • Taking him out in his Wheelchair around the town and driving his Wheelchair. Accessible Vehicle to activities, appointments and visits to friends and family.
Personal Qualities and Attributes required
  • Ability to create a strong relationship with him and with other team members
  • Respectful of confidentiality and privacy
  • Responsible, reliable, and trustworthy
  • Respectful of dignity and independence
  • Being an attentive listener – with the patience to understand his indistinct speech
  • Good communication skills and social skills and calm under pressure
  • Punctual, and flexible
  • Work ethic of cleanliness and hygiene
  • Driving license for an automatic car.
Shifts

The newly available shifts available are 5 mornings a week each of five and a half hours, Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Sat. It may be possible to swap one of the weekend shifts to a weekday but we are looking for someone to take on four or five shifts each week including at least one of the weekend slots. There will be opportunities for other hours covering holidays and absences of other team members and the possibility of the role extending for the right person.
