Job description

Support Worker required to support James, a 14‑year‑old who lives in the Crook area. James is chatty and loves to socialize; he enjoys being out and about, talking to others and having fun. He is wheelchair‑bound, paralyzed from the waist down with spina bifida and hydrocephalus (VP shunt), and suffers from neuropathic bowel and bladder. James can become unsettled when overwhelmed or disregulated. He needs support with safety when crossing roads and may require assistance pushing his wheelchair if he becomes tired.

Hours / Wage: 6 hours per week @ £13 per hour. This role is available only during school holidays.

We are looking for someone who can engage James in enjoyable activities and take him out and about 2 days during the holidays for 3 hours per day.

Duties
  • Ensure James is safe and happy, supporting him with his wheelchair while out.
  • Provide support and reassurance if he becomes upset.
Qualifications
  • Experience working with SEN children.
  • First aid training completed and in date.
  • Preferably have a driving licence, though this is not compulsory.
Personal qualities
  • Fun, chatty and approachable.
