Accounts/Payroll Assistant

Type: Temporary (approx. 3-4 months)
Hours: Full Time (Mon - Fri)
Salary: £16.00 - £17.00 per hour
Location: Grantown

Overview

The role supports the payroll and pensions service and assists the Financial Accountant with monthly accounting processes, year‑end preparations, and the annual audit.

Duties
  • Payroll and Pensions
    • Deliver accurate, timely monthly payroll for staff and Board members
    • Process HMRC tax returns and payments
    • Process pension returns and payments to all providers
    • Deliver all year‑end payroll, tax and pension returns
    • Manage delivery of agreed payroll services to external clients
  • Financial Accounting and Annual Accounts
    • Support corporate accounting and external audit processes
    • Create and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations
    • Post prepayments and capitalise assets
    • Submit project accounting claims to external funders
    • Support interim audit fieldwork
    • Provide ad‑hoc analysis and forecasting
    • Maintain data for annual carbon reporting
    • Assist development of data models and analysis
    • Adhere to organisational principles and Health and Safety strategy
Person Specification
Essential
  • Experienced payroll and accounting professional
  • Excellent numerical skills and proven experience with Excel and financial data manipulation
  • Capacity to analyse information and present results clearly and accessibly
  • Skills to deliver payroll and pensions administration services
  • Experience handling confidential information with respect and adherence to confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentational communication skills
  • Competent user of the standard Microsoft suite of products
Desirable
  • Knowledge of Access Payroll and Accounting packages (Access Financials)
  • Experience running an organisational payroll and managing associated tax and other returns
  • Experience administering a pensions scheme, preferably the Civil Service Pension Scheme
  • Knowledge of the Gaelic language
