Do you have a knack for spotting when someone needs a quiet chat, a reset or a gentle nudge in the right direction? A fantastic special school in Gateshead is looking for a Pastoral Support Assistant who can bring calm, care and consistency to pupils who need a little extra support day to day.

You’ll be the person students turn to when things feel overwhelming, the steady voice that helps them regulate, and the trusted adult who celebrates every small win with them.

What you’ll be doing
  • Supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Helping students regulate their emotions and manage challenging moments
  • Building strong, positive relationships based on trust and respect
  • Working with teachers, therapy teams and pastoral leads to create consistent support plans
  • Creating safe spaces, calm routines and opportunities for pupils to reconnect with learning
  • Keeping clear, sensitive records to support pupil wellbeing
What we’re looking for
  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH or SEND
  • Someone patient, emotionally aware and able to stay calm under pressure
  • A great listener who knows how to build rapport quickly

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
