Overview

Our client is a large local government organisation looking for an experienced Paralegal to join their team. This is initially a 6 month contract which may be extended for the right applicant.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in providing professional and comprehensive legal services to the Council, its members and other clients in relation to Childrens Services and other departments as required.
  • In consultation with the Team Leader, ensure effective liaison with agencies including Health, Police, Probation, Courts and private practice solicitors to secure cooperation in preparation of cases for Court.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Children’s Services and respond to requests for legal advice and support related to Child Care law and practice.
  • Provide extensive case management assistance to the Solicitor dealing with the case, including ensuring compliance by the local authority with court directions in care proceedings and other involved court proceedings; prepare draft case management orders and case summaries; seek disclosure; collate and redact documents for disclosure.
  • Provide assistance and support for solicitors in interviewing witnesses, including taking statements related to proceedings in any Court, or other proceedings as requested; prepare statements.
  • Provide legal support to the Team Leader and solicitors in delivering high quality, timely and proactive advice to Client Departments.
  • Draft letters, submit Court Applications and accompanying documentation; attend Court to assist Counsel and take notes of evidence (if required).
  • Service of Notices, Summons, Statements, Court Bundles and other documents on Courts and other persons.
  • Any experience of working within a public sector environment would be a great advantage.
