Overview

This role supports Cencora's wholesale distribution services in Europe operating through the Alliance Healthcare business. The Central Logistics Centre (CLC) is Alliance Healthcare UK's new, next-generation logistics facility based in Birmingham. Designed with advanced automation and robotics, the CLC is a world-class addition to the Alliance Healthcare estate, set to redefine how we manage and deliver medical, health and beauty products to our customers across the UK.

Position Summary

The Operations Shift Manager is responsible for overseeing the efficient and compliant operations of our 24/7 pharmaceutical wholesale warehouse during assigned shifts, managing team performance, ensuring adherence to standard operational procedures, maintaining high standards of work practices, safety and compliance, and ensuring service aligns with Service Level Agreements (SLA) and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets.

Key Accountabilities
  • Operational Leadership
    • Lead daily shift operations, ensuring smooth, efficient, and accurate picking.
    • Establish clear expectations and demonstrate high standards of work practices and safety-conscious behaviour.
  • People Leadership
    • Lead, engage, mentor, and develop a multi-skilled operations team.
    • Collaborate with HR Business Partner for growth opportunities and support team development, coaching, and direction.
    • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Shift Management
    • Oversee warehouse operations during assigned shifts, ensuring effective handovers.
    • Monitor automated systems and equipment performance.
  • Issue Resolution
    • Address and resolve operational issues as they arise.
    • Coordinate with maintenance for timely resolution of equipment malfunctions.
    • Investigate customer service issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Training and Development
    • Provide training for team members and ensure proficiency in automated systems.
    • Collaborate with the Learning and Development department for ongoing training programs.
  • Health and Safety and ESG
    • Champion and lead health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
    • Promote a culture of safety within the department.
  • Operational Efficiency
    • Monitor KPIs and operational metrics to drive performance.
    • Identify and implement process improvements and cost-saving measures.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience in warehouse operations and team management.
  • Familiarity with inventory management systems and tools.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on safety and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and warehouse software.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance and quality standards in pharmaceutical distribution.
