Our client, based near Royston, is looking for an Operations Manager to join their team.

Job Description

This is a small business and our client is looking for an Operations Manager who will grow the operational side of the business with passion, care and attention.

Reporting to the Business Owner, the Operations Manager will bring order, leadership and drive to operations; running the day to day, managing people and processes, and supporting the owner with focus on the strategic growth of the company. This is a full time, permanent position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Leading and managing yard and operations staff
  • Overseeing the weekly planner, organising deliveries, and ensuring smooth workflows
  • Taking charge of stock control, materials tracking, and supplier coordination
  • Managing and scheduling machine maintenance, vehicles, and general site upkeep
  • Assisting with recruitment, training, and team development
  • Playing a key role in the selection and implementation of an ERP/CRM system
  • Monitoring and improving operational efficiency and planning

This role would suit a candidate who may have run their own small business in the past and understands owner-led dynamics. Joining our client, you would be joining a values-driven team that genuinely cares about their craft; the ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in wood, heritage building, sustainability, and traditional craftsmanship.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in an operational or leadership role—ideally in a similar or related industry (timber, joinery, construction, building materials)
  • Confident using IT systems, and ideally with experience in setting up or running a CRM or ERP system
  • Strong people management skills, with the ability to lead in a small family business environment
  • Excellent organisational skills, with a proactive and calm approach to problem-solving.
