Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nursing Associate to join our friendly General Practice team for 12 hours a week. The ideal candidate will provide nursing support to the Nurses and General Practitioners to ensure the efficient and effective provision of the full range of nursing services to the patients of the Practice. This role requires strong organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced Nursing Associate to join our excellent nursing team. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team providing smear tests, injections, dressings, phlebotomy and other related services to support the clinical teams.

Job responsibilities

Nursing Associate

Clinical

  1. To undertake all duties in line with the training and instruction provided by the Nurses, Nurse Practitioner and General Practitioners
  2. Conduct weight and height measurements, test and record blood pressure
  3. The testing and result recording of clinical specimens
  4. Ensuring patient care by chaperoning
  5. Venepuncture and the taking and preparing of pathology samples
  6. Undertake ECG
  7. Assist with the provision of health checks
  8. The collection of clinical waste, ensuring appropriate storage prior to disposal
  9. The ongoing cleaning and sterilisation of clinical equipment and working surfaces, preparing treatment rooms prior to use
  10. Actively ensure infection control procedures/protocols are adhered to
  11. Administering flu and pneumonia vaccines under PSD
  12. Administering prescribed injections
  13. Attach home ECG and blood pressure monitors and download results into patients notes
  14. Assist in the training of new staff, trainee GPs and students
  15. Wound care and leg ulcer dressings using Aseptic and Non-Touch Technique
  16. Removal of skin closures, sutures/clips/steristrips
  17. Compression hosiery measuring and fitting
  18. Smear taking

Administration

  1. The checking and recording of medical supplies on receipt
  2. Communicating with the multidisciplinary team relevant information in a timely manner
  3. The inputting of information onto the Practice clinical system
  4. Ensure confidentiality of all patient information
  5. Undertake all training required as standard by the practice e.g. Resus training

General

  1. To ensure adequate clinical stock levels and medical stationery and maintain an effective stock management system
  2. Ensure adequate stock levels in stock room, treatment rooms, fridges and cupboards
  3. Any other reasonable duties which may be requested from time-to-time, including role development, extended duties and overtime cover for holidays etc
